- Reduction of crop duration from 180 days to 120-130 days with synchronous maturity to fit into different cropping systems.
- Development of stable pistillate and potential monoecious lines with multiple resistances to pests (Spodoptera, semilooper and sucking pest complex) and diseases (wilt complex and botrytis)
- Production and supply of nucleus and breeder seed of castor hybrids and varieties.
Millets:
- Development of early maturing varieties/Hybrids to escape drought.
- Development of lodging resistant varieties/Hybrids by breeding for short, stout stalks with good thickness of rind and freedom from insects or diseases damaging and weakening the stalk.
- Development of abiotic stress resistant varieties/Hybrids.
- Development of long bristle varieties/Hybrids to protect the crop against damage from birds.
- Development of good seed quality Hybrids by developing lustrous, bold, pearly-amber grains.
Groundnut:
- Development of high yielding early maturity groundnut varieties with foliar fungal and soil borne diseases tolerance/resistance.
- Development of high yielding early maturity groundnut varieties with fresh seed dormancy.
- Development of bold seeded / confectionery varieties
- Seed production and supply of popular groundnut varieties to supply quality seed to the farmers.
Pulses:
- Development of short and medium duration high yielding and terminal moisture stress resistant varieties in redgram.
- Development of Fusarium wilt and sterility mosaic disease resistant varieties in redgram.
- Development of high yielding varieties of greengram and horsegram with resistance to powdery mildew and yellow mosaic virus.
Others:
- Maintenance breeding of released varieties/hybrids of rice, pulses, castor, groundnut, cotton and their breeder seed production.
- To identity profitable farming systems in an integrated mode.
- Transfer of technology.
