Krishi Vigyan Kendras

Krishi Vigyan Kendras (KVKs) are grassroots-level agricultural science centers established by ICAR to refine and disseminate agricultural technologies. Since the first KVK in 1974, they have played a vital role in supporting farmers and meeting stakeholders’ needs. Today, ICAR has set up 731 KVKs across India under various host organizations, including State Agricultural Universities and ICAR institutes.

Mandate & Activities

  • Technology assessment, refinement, and demonstration

  • On-farm testing for location-specific solutions

  • Frontline demonstrations on farmers’ fields

  • Capacity building of farmers and extension workers

  • ICT-based advisories and information support

  • Serve as knowledge and resource centers

  • Production and supply of quality seeds and materials

  • Document farm innovations and support ongoing schemes
