Dr. Kondapally Venakata Ramana Rao is serving as the Dean of Agricultural Engineering and Technology at Professor Jayashankar Telangana Agricultural University. He also holds additional responsibilities as Dean of Community Science in-charge and Estate Officer in-charge. With proficiency in English, Hindi and Telugu, along with a working knowledge of French, he brings a broad academic and professional perspective to the university’s leadership team.
Dr. Ramana Rao’s academic journey reflects a deep engagement with agricultural engineering, particularly in Soil and Water Conservation Engineering. He earned both his M.Sc. and Ph.D. in Agricultural Engineering from the Indian Agricultural Research Institute, New Delhi, completing his doctoral work in 1998. He holds a B.Tech in Agricultural Engineering from APAU, Hyderabad, and further strengthened his managerial capabilities through a Diploma in Management (2007) and a Post-Graduate Diploma in Human Resources Management (2002) from IGNOU, New Delhi.
Before joining PJTAU, Dr. Ramana Rao built a rich and diverse portfolio of experience across the Indian Council of Agricultural Research system. His professional association with ICAR-Central Institute of Agricultural Engineering, Bhopal, spans more than two decades, beginning in 1998. Over the years, he progressed through various scientific positions, starting as Scientist and rising to Senior Scientist and Principal Scientist. He later headed the Irrigation and Drainage Engineering Division, guiding research programs, mentoring teams and contributing to national initiatives in water management and engineering solutions.
In addition to his ICAR experience, he served as Scientist-G at the Science and Engineering Research Board, Department of Science and Technology, New Delhi, where he was involved in supporting scientific research and capacity-building initiatives at the national level.
His return to the university system brings with it a wealth of technical expertise, research experience and administrative insight. As a Dean, he is committed to strengthening academic programs, encouraging innovation in agricultural engineering and supporting interdisciplinary collaborations across the university. His background in research, management and institutional leadership positions him to contribute meaningfully to PJTAU’s growth and its mission of advancing agricultural education and technology for the state.
