Introduction
HUMAN DEVELOPMENT AND FAMILY STUDIES
The mandate of the department is to understand the critical issues in life span development, factors influencing development and maintaining harmonious human relationships in various ecological settings by understanding psychological aspects of human behaviour. The department would facilitate in planning need based programmes for different age groups across lifespan. It promotes understanding the exceptionalities in human development and facilitates in developing intervention strategies.

Aim of the Programme

The aim of the PG programme is to develop skilled professionals who can understand, assess, and address human developmental issues across the lifespan. It emphasizes to promote research, innovation, and application of knowledge for enhancing the quality of life through supportive services and policies.

Candidates seeking admission into the PG programme in HDFS must meet the eligibility criteria specified by the university. Admissions are based on academic merit and/or entrance examinations as per the university guidelines. Interested applicants must apply through the official university admission portal.

Student Experiences
Master’s in Human Development
Master Course Work
The M.Sc. in Human Development and Family Studies is a 72-credit program covering major subjects, research, and common courses. It focuses on human growth, family dynamics, early childhood care, youth development, counseling, and disability management. The curriculum combines academic learning with practical experience and research, guided by expert faculty.
Master's Thesis Research
After completing first-year courses, students begin thesis research under the guidance of an approved faculty advisor. The advisory committee helps them select a research topic to fulfill 30 credits. Students submit a final thesis detailing the research problem, methodology, and findings. The dissertation aims to build skills in independent, innovative, and policy-relevant research in human development and family welfare.
Research internship
The students are exposed to several scientific events like symposia and conferences showing the means to get financial assistance for their study. Many are encouraged to have internship training at other institutes for a couple of months, either in India or abroad. Students in the HDFS programme engage in experiential learning through field visits, internships, case studies, and community-based projects. They also participate in workshops, seminars, and research presentations, which help them gain practical exposure and professional competence.
