Introduction
EXTENSION EDUCATION & COMMUNICATION MANAGEMENT
The Department of Extension Education and Communication Management (EECM) at PJTAU, Hyderabad, trains students to effectively communicate agricultural and life-enhancing technologies, especially to rural and tribal communities. Emphasis is placed on developing content in audio, visual, and written formats based on societal needs. Students gain hands-on experience in both conventional and digital media production. The department plays a key role in empowering farm families through the dissemination of latest technologies. It focuses on capacity building, skill enhancement, and promoting sustainable rural development. EECM prepares students to contribute meaningfully to national progress.

Aim of the Programme
- The Ph.D. programme in Extension Education and Communication Management follows ICAR guidelines, offering courses like Managerial Skills, Impact Assessment, Scaling Techniques, and e-Extension Projects. The curriculum combines theory with field-based learning by experienced faculty. Student dissertations aim to develop independent research skills in advanced areas of the discipline.

Application and Admission
To get admission into the Ph.D. (Community Science) in Extension Education and Communication Management degree course, students must have the eligible qualifications specified by the university. Applications should be submitted in the official form, which will be available from the University Registrar after an admission notification is released. The admissions shall be regulated and made in accordance with the rules and regulations in force.
Future Career
- The EECM Ph.D. program opens diverse career opportunities in education, research, and rural development. Graduates can become professors, research scientists in ICAR institutes, curriculum developers, or training coordinators. They can serve as Agricultural Extension Officers, Rural Development Officers, or Communication Specialists in ministries and KVKs. Opportunities also include roles in SAUs, ICT-based rural services, and content creation for platforms like DD Kisan and Krishi Darshan.

Doctoral in Extension Education & Communication Management
Doctoral Course Work
For the Ph.D. program, students must complete a minimum of 101 credits. This includes 12 credits in their major subject, at least 6 credits in a minor subject, and 5 credits in supporting courses. They are also required to complete 2 credits in common courses and attend a 1-credit seminar. A major part of the program is the thesis research, which carries 75 credits. Additionally, students must pass 1 credit Oral Comprehensive Examination.
Doctoral thesis research
After completing the courses in the first year, the students start their thesis research. Each student is assigned to an experienced faculty, approved by the Dean of Post-Graduate Studies, who would guide the student on his/ her choice of research topic for a minimum of two years period.
Research internship
The students are exposed to several scientific events like symposia and conferences. Many are encouraged to have internship training at other institutes for a couple of months, either in India or abroad.
