Introduction

ENTOMOLOGY

  • Entomology is a branch of zoology that deals with the scientific study of insects, including their biology, behavior, and interaction with the environment.
  • Insects make up 73 % of the biodiversity of animal kingdom on Earth and are evidence to evolution, adaptation and innovation, often serving as technology models.

Why this Programme?

  • Requirement for new crop of trained entomologists to urgently  address the issues related to growing concerns of insect pest outbreaks, exotic pest invasions, insecticide resistance and biodiversity loss due to shifts in climatic and cropping patterns
  • Need for new generation entomologists with Precision/ digital technology enabled skills to explore cost effective, innovative and sustainable pest management solutions to ensure food security and a protected environment.

Get Started

Aim of the Programme

  • To impart knowledge on insect taxonomy, physiology, ecology , behavior in relation to agriculture
  • To train students in basics of research methodology/Ethics and experimentation, data analysis and interpretation in relation to entomological studies through a dissertation.
  • To nurture technical writing, urge for publication and patenting, soft skills for communication across stakeholder spectrum
  • To promote interdisciplinary research tying up entomology with related fields of Genetics and plant breeding, plant pathology, biotechnology as and where relevant.
