Introduction

Agronomy

The Department of Agronomy is a vital component of agricultural institutions, universities, and research organizations. Agronomy is the science and practice of soil management, crop production, and water conservation. The department focuses on developing sustainable agricultural practices, improving crop yields, and enhancing food security.

    Why this Programme?

The Doctoral program  emphasises to study following key areas

    1. Crop Science: Study of crop growth, development, and production, including crop breeding, genetics, and physiology.
    2. Soil Science: Investigation of soil properties, fertility, and management practices to optimize crop growth and environmental sustainability.
    3. Water Management: Development of efficient irrigation systems and water conservation strategies to minimize water waste and optimize crop water use.

    Student Experiences

"I am Kokkula Bhavitha, and I successfully completed my Ph.D. in Agronomy in 2024 from the Department of Agronomy, College of Agriculture, Rajendranagar, under Professor Jayashankar Telangana Agricultural University (PJTAU). My doctoral research focused on the topic “Response of Chilli to an AI-Powered Drip Irrigation System,” which involved integrating advanced technology with precision agriculture to optimize water use efficiency and crop productivity. Throughout the course of my research, I gained valuable hands-on experience in experimental design, data collection, and statistical analysis. This journey significantly enhanced my analytical and problem-solving skills while also deepening my understanding of crop-water relationships under smart irrigation systems."

"I am Karthik Rayapati, and I completed my Ph.D. in Agronomy in 2024 from the Department of Agronomy, College of Agriculture, Rajendranagar, under Professor Jayashankar Telangana Agricultural University (PJTAU). My doctoral research was centered on the topic “Evaluation of Component Integration and Optimization for Climate-Smart Farming System Approach under Irrigated Conditions of Telangana.” The study aimed at developing and assessing integrated farming system models that are both sustainable and resilient to climate variability, with a focus on optimizing resource use under irrigated conditions. Doctoral in Agronomy

    Doctoral Course Work

Upon admission, students embark on a comprehensive academic program designed to provide an in-depth understanding of advanced concepts and practices in the field of Agronomy. The curriculum consists of a total of 75 credit hours, carefully structured to balance theoretical knowledge with practical research experience.

    Doctoral thesis research

After successfully completing their coursework during the first year, students transition into the research phase of the program, where they begin work on their thesis. Each student is assigned an experienced faculty advisor, whose appointment is formally approved by the Dean of Post-Graduate Studies.

    Research internship

The students are consistently encouraged and supported to participate in a diverse array of scientific events, including symposia, national and international conferences, subject-specific workshops, and academic seminars. These events serve as vital platforms for broadening their academic horizons beyond the classroom.
