The Department of Agricultural Economics at PJTAU is committed to excellence in education, research and policy support in the field of agriculture.     Aim of the Programme

    • To equip students with in-depth knowledge and analytical skills in agricultural economics, enabling them to address economic issues in agriculture, contribute to policy planning and pursue careers in research, academics and agribusiness sectors.

     Application and Admission

    • The candidates seeking admission into Master’s degree shall appear for the ICAR AIEEA (PG) conducted by NTA during the year of admission duly passing the qualifying examination prescribed. The detailed process of admission shall be provided in the Information Bulleting of that particular year of admission. Application for admission shall be made in the prescribed online form hosted on the University website pjtau.edu.in after the notification is issued by the Registrar of the University to this effect. The admission shall be regulated and made in accordance with the rules and regulations in force.

    Future Career

    • Graduates can pursue careers as university professors, researchers and policy analysts in institutions like ICAR, RBI and government planning bodies. They are eligible for competitive exams like the Indian Economic Service (IES) and other civil services. With expertise in data analysis and economic modeling, graduates can also work in banks, agribusiness firms and consultancy. Entrepreneurship in agri-based ventures is another promising avenue. Additionally, they are also well equipped for higher studies including doctoral (Ph.D.) programs in agricultural economics and policy research roles.

    Master’s in Agricultural Economics

    Master Course Work

    After admission, students undergo structured coursework aimed at building a strong foundation in agricultural economics and allied disciplines. A total of 40 credits are completed during the first year, covering core, minor and supporting subjects along with common courses. The curriculum blends theory with practical applications and coursework is spread over two semesters. This phase equips students with the conceptual, analytical, and technical skills required for advanced research and professional roles.

    Master’s thesis research

    Following successful completion of coursework, students undertake thesis research in the second year, carrying 30 credits. Each student is assigned an advisory committee, with an experienced faculty member as chairperson, approved by the Dean of Post-Graduate Studies. The committee guides the student in selecting a relevant research topic, formulating methodology and conducting field or analytical work. At the end of the program, students are expected to submit a comprehensive thesis that presents the research problem, objectives, methodology, data analysis, findings and policy implications.

    Major courses offered in the Department

    Department offers wide range of major courses including microeconomics, macroeconomics, agricultural production economics, agricultural marketing, econometrics, agricultural finance and project management, research methodology and linear programming.

    Minor Courses Offered in the Department

    • The minor courses include agricultural development and policy analysis, natural resource and environmental economics, development economics. Besides, few compulsory courses such as library and information services, agricultural research and research ethics are also provided
