Mandated Crops :

  • AICRIP on Safflower: operating since 1989
  • AICRIP on Rabi Sorghum: operating since 1989
  • Non Plan: operating since 1993-94. ARS, Tandur is acting as a voluntary centre for pulse breeding since 2004-2005.

Safflower:

  • As a coordinating centre for safflower research under AICRP, cataloguing and evaluation of germplasm and utilization in breeding programme.
  • Conducting of AICRP trials and identifying promising entries suitable for the safflower growing areas of Southern Telangana zone.
  • Development of high yielding safflower varieties with high oil content.
  • Development of suitable safflower varieties with tolerance or resistance to biotic stresses like wilt and aphids.
  • Development of high yielding safflower hybrids.
  • Development of integrated crop production modules using novel agronomic research approaches.
  • Demonstration of productivity potentials of improved technologies under real farm situations.

Sorghum:

  • Development of high yielding white seeded types with good roti making quality and resistance/tolerance to shootfly and drought stress
  • Development of best management practices for newly released potential hybrids and varieties under various cropping systems and situations. Better nutrient management for obtaining high yield and remunerative returns.
  • Demonstration of productivity potentials of improved technologies under real farm situations.

Redgram:

  • Maintenance, Evaluation and Utilization of Germplasm in crossing program
  • Development of Fusarium wilt resistant Pigeonpea varieties
  • Development of medium duration, medium size seeded wilt resistant pigeonpea variety
  • Development of integrated crop production modules using novel agronomic research approaches.
  • Demonstration of productivity potentials of improved technologies under real farm Situations

As a part of village adoption progamme ARS, Tandur encouraged farmers to register FPC as PJTSAU Ekmai Farmers producers’ company PVT.LTD with the motto of alleviating farmer’s poverty by shifting them towards sustainable agriculture by way of giving technical guidance and indulging them in starting profitable Agri Enterprises.
