Implementation of OFT on IDM in Groundnut and Diagnostic visit in maize and Groundnut fields
As part of the technical programme, KVK, Palem implemented an On-Farm Trial (OFT) on Assessment of Integrated Disease Management (IDM) in groundnut at five different locations. Inputs such as Tebuconazole, Trichoderma harzianum, and Chlorothalonil were distributed for the management of major foliar diseases, namely tikka leaf spot and rust. Further, a diagnostic field visit was conducted in the neighboring fields. The groundnut crop is at the vegetative stage (45 days). Spodoptera litura infestation was observed above the Economic Threshold Level (ETL) (2 larvae per plant, randomly). The SMS (Plant Protection) advised installation of pheromone traps @ 4–5 per acre and spraying of Chlorantraniliprole @ 60 ml per acre. Farmers were also sensitized on Integrated Pest Management (IPM) practices in groundnut, with special emphasis on the preparation and use of poison bait for managing late instar larvae of S. litura. The maize crop is at the vegetative stage (40 days), where Fall Armyworm (FAW) incidence was observed below ETL. Farmers were advised to remain vigilant and undertake need-based management measures if pest incidence increases. In this programme Dr. O. Shaila, SMS (Plant Protection), Y. Sultan Young Professionals, KVK, Palem and 4 farmers were participated.
