Dr. G. E. CH. Vidya Sagar, Registrar of Professor Jayashankar Telangana Agricultural University (PJTAU), is an accomplished academician, researcher and administrator with more than twenty-six years of distinguished service in agricultural education and research. Born on 22 May 1967 in Bhadrachalam of Bhadradri Kothagudem district, he has dedicated his entire professional life to advancing the fields of agronomy, integrated nutrient management, cropping systems, and crop husbandry, while simultaneously contributing to institutional strengthening and student development across the university.
Dr. Vidya Sagar holds a Ph.D. in Agriculture with specialization in Agronomy from the Indian Agricultural Research Institute (IARI), New Delhi, where he was awarded the prestigious ICAR Senior Research Fellowship. He completed his M.Sc. (Ag.) and B.Sc. (Ag.) from ANGRAU, Hyderabad, laying a strong foundation for a career rooted in academic rigor and field-oriented research.
Joining service on 10 June 1998, Dr. Vidya Sagar has served PJTAU in progressively responsible roles, bringing academic excellence and administrative leadership to each assignment. Since 2012, he has been serving as Professor of Agronomy at the College of Agriculture, Rajendranagar, where he taught undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral students. He has guided numerous M.Sc. and Ph.D. scholars, while also contributing to several university-level academic and administrative responsibilities.
His earlier leadership roles reflect a broad spectrum of professional engagement. As Senior Scientist (Agronomy) and Head at the Regional Sugarcane and Rice Research Station in Rudrur, he led research programs on cropping systems and organic farming under AICRP trials, while also serving as Principal of the Seed Technology Polytechnic, overseeing both academic and administrative operations. His tenure at the Regional Agricultural Research Station, Palem included roles such as Vice-Principal of the Agricultural Polytechnic, Senior Scientist and Scientist in Sorghum and Castor Agronomy, and officer in-charge of various academic, extension, and administrative portfolios. His contributions include organizing several ZREAC meetings, Kisan Melas, field demonstrations and T&V programs, reflecting his strong commitment to farmer outreach and technology dissemination.
Beginning his career as Scientist (Agronomy) at RARS Chintapalle, Visakhapatnam district, Andhra Pradesh, he conducted extensive agronomic experiments, managed research farms and engaged actively in extension services, establishing a robust early foundation for his later leadership roles. With retirement scheduled for 31 May 2027, Dr. Vidya Sagar continues to serve the university with dedication, bringing academic depth, administrative acumen and a commitment to strengthening agricultural education for the state of Telangana. His professional journey stands as a reflection of disciplined service, institutional leadership, and a lifelong passion for agronomy.
