Department of Agricultural Economics

The Department of Agricultural Economics was established in 1946 with the inception of the College of Agriculture, initially offering undergraduate courses in Agricultural Economics and Rural Sociology. Postgraduate education commenced in 1958, followed by the introduction of the Ph.D. programme in 1982. Over the years, the department has expanded its academic and research activities, offering UG, PG, and doctoral programmes. It has made significant contributions through cost of cultivation studies, Agricultural Market Intelligence schemes, and problem-oriented agro-economic research. Graduates have career opportunities in universities, research institutions, banking, agricultural finance institutions, NABARD, agribusiness firms, consultancy, NGOs, policy think tanks, and are eligible for civil services, economic services, and other competitive examinations.

    I am B. Mohan Uday Raj, joined the Ph.D. programme in Agricultural Economics at PJTAU in 2020. The six-semester programme included three semesters of advanced coursework and three of independent research. Coursework strengthened my foundation in Economic theory and its application to Agricultural and developmental issues. I actively participated in conferences, expert lectures, and training in R and Python for data analysis.
