Mandate : Quality Seed production activities and  Seed Research component

Mandated Crops: Rice, Groundnut, Pulses and Maize.

Quality Seed Production:

  • Seed production (Nucleus Seed, Breeder Seed and Quality Seed) of all University released varieties.

Seed Technology Research Project:

  1. Seed Production and Certification-
  • To strengthen research on seed production and certification of important food and fodder crops.
  • To strengthen research on development of technology for maximizing hybrid seed production.
  • To find out diverse areas for seed production and development of appropriate seed production technology.
  • To standardize the techniques for seed certification.

     2. Seed Pathology- 

  • Detection of seedborne pathogens
  • Development of protocols for detection methods
  • Identification of effective seed dressers
  • Determination of Certification standards.
  • Seed Entomology-
  • To carry out basic and applied research in Seed Entomology 
  • To evolve suitable pre- harvest measures for management of seed insect pests. 
  • Standardization of Technologies for management of Seed born insects.
  • To evolve suitable pre- storage and mid- storage seed treatments to control seed borne insects.

    Infrastructure Facilities Available

    • DUS: Five acres of land, furnished with advanced underground irrigation infrastructure, have been designated for DUS testing activities.
    • Seed Technology  Research Project:
    1. Seed production and certification lab with Equipment for physical purity analysis.
    2. Seed Pathology Lab: BOD incubator, Laminar Air flow, Autoclave, Stereobinocular Microscope etc

    15. Reaffirming the validity periods of seed certification in field crops
    16. During 2023–24, seed sale was 1675.6 quintals accounting to ₹88,90,294/- at the main campus.

    Agro technology Demonstration:

    1. Seed Treatment and Pre- Harvest Fungicidal Sprays for Better Seed Health and Quality of Soybean was demonstrated during 2024-25 at KVK, Adilabad and KVK, Rudrur.

    Farmer trainings:

    • Training programmes were organized on “Novel Seed production Techniques in field and pulse crops” at RARS, Palem, RARS, Warangal, RARS, Jagtial, ARS, Karimnagar, ARS, Adilabad, ARS, Kampasagar, ARS, Tandur, ARS, Mudhole, ARS, Kunaram, ARS, Tornala, ARS, Tandur KVK, Palem, KVK, Wyra, KVK, Malyal, KVK, Adilabad and KVK, Kothagudemby Quality Seed Production Scientists during 2018-2025.
    • Training programmes under Tribal Sub- Plan:Training programmes were conducted and inputs were given to the ST farmers of Vijayanagaram and Srikakulam districts of Andhra Pradesh and Mahaboobnagar, Vikarabad, Tandur and Nagarkurnool districts of Telangana District upto 2020. 
    • Three (03) Intellectual Property Rights training programmes were conducted at SRTC, Rajendranagar, Hyderabad, RARS, Palem and RARS, Warangal.
