Mandate:
- To develop medium and early season maize hybrids for rainfed and irrigated conditions.
- To develop maize hybrids resistant to important pests and diseases.
- To develop package of practices for maize.
- To develop drought tolerant maize hybrids.
- To maintain inbred lines and germplasm of maize for future use in seed production and breeding programmes.
- To cater the need of quality seed to farming community and planning of seed production of different crops.
- To develop economical and efficient hybrid seed production technology.
- To conduct regular training programmes on “Maize Production Technology” to farmers, departmental officers, nodal officers, seed producers of public and private agencies.

- Development of high yielding single cross hybrids of Maize of different maturity groups.
- Genetic enhancement of Maize.
- Breeding for abiotic stress tolerant maize hybrid.
- Development of Post-flowering stalk rot (PFSR)/Late-wilt resistant maize hybrids.
- Seed production of hybrids proposed for nomination to AICRP
- Collection, characterization, cataloguing, maintenance and utilization of germplasm for development of inbred lines
- Evaluation of experimental maize hybrids in coordinated trials and zonal trials
- Breeder Seed production of University/IIMR released maize single cross hybrids/ synthetics/ composites
Plan Agronomy:
- Performance of prerelease different maturity maize hybrids, sweet corn, popcorn & QPM against different levels of fertilizer and planting density.
- Long term trial on integrated nutrient management in maize.
- Crop residue management in traditional and emerging maize systems during Kharif & Rabi.

- Five Drought tolerant inbred lines KML 29, KDTML 3, KDTML 19, KDTML 82 and KDTML 66 lines developed were registered with National Bureau of Plant Genetic Resources, New Delhi.
