Vision: Strengthening soils naturally for sustainable agriculture.
Mission: Delivering reliable biofertilizer solutions through science-driven production and quality assurance for diverse cropping systems.
Biofertilizers play a crucial role in sustainable agriculture by enhancing soil fertility and crop productivity through natural biological processes. They contain beneficial microorganisms that improve nutrient availability, promote root development, and strengthen plant resilience, thereby reducing dependence on chemical fertilizers and minimizing environmental impact.
Recognizing the importance of eco-friendly farming practices, the university has established a Biofertilizer Production Unit dedicated to the scientific production of high-quality biofertilizers. The unit has isolated, characterized, and identified microbial cultures with multiple beneficial traits, tailored for different crops. All cultures are systematically preserved and maintained under controlled conditions to ensure consistency and effectiveness.
Since 2017–18, the unit has successfully commercialized both carrier-based and liquid biofertilizer formulations for application in agriculture, horticulture, and plantation crops, directly benefiting the farming community. All products are developed following strict quality standards, and prices are approved and fixed by the University to ensure affordability and accessibility.
At present, seven different types of biofertilizers are commercially produced and made available through the Biofertilizer Production Unit of PJTAU.
- Nitrogen fixing bacteria
Rhizobium – Redgram
Brady Rhizobium – Soybean
Azotobacter- All Commercial crops
Azospirillum - Phosphorous Solubilizing Bacteria (All crops)
Pseudomonas
Bacillus
Trichoderma - Potassium Releasing Bacteria (All crops)
- Zinc Solubilizing Bacteria (All crops)
